Cellular Therapies

Vitalant’s Cellular Therapy Laboratories (CTL) provide expert processing, cryopreservation and testing support for blood and marrow transplant programs. CTL supports programs providing cellular therapy treatments for a wide spectrum of patients across all age groups.
Cell therapy processing services currently cover transplant programs in six (6) states. Logistics networks allow for processing support of programs across the U.S. with access to local airports.
Cellular Therapy Services we perform:

  • Peripheral Blood Progenitor Cell (CD34+) Enumeration and viability.
  • TNC and viability.
  • Colony Forming Unit (CFU) Assay.
  • Volume Reduction.
  • Red Cell Reduction.
  • Cryopreservation and storage.
  • Distribution of fresh and cryopreserved products for infusion.
  • On-site support for product thaw (for programs in Phoenix, AZ, or Spokane, WA).
  • Processing and cryopreservation of source material for manufacture of modified cell therapy products (e.g. CAR-T).
  • Processing and cryopreservation for National Marrow Donor Program collections.
  • Emergency backup processing laboratory services.
Vitalant experience provides:
  • 24/7 on-call and emergent support coverage by highly trained and experienced staff.
    • Clinical Laboratory staff to perform processing and testing.
    • Board Certified Medical Directors for consultation, guidance and patient management.
  • Interstate support of clinical transplant programs, including CAR-T Comprehensive quality assurance plan.
    • Support for clinical trials and product development (e.g. CAR-T cell therapies).
    • Quarterly quality monitoring reports.
  • Long-term storage and inventory management.
    • Coordination of logistics for transfer of cryopreserved products from other facilities.
  • Access to partners providing related services such as Immunohematology Reference Laboratory and HLA testing via Vitalant IRLs; infectious disease marker testing through Creative Testing Solutions; and sterility testing through VRL Eurofins.
